But seriously, this old man is smooth. After aging it, try a side-by-side taste test with a fresh one. You'll see the difference.
125 ml Rye Whiskey
100 ml Campari
75 ml Punta Mes
25 ml Averna
Store all ingredients in a 375 ml bottle with a charred oak stave.
Shake well, store in a dark, cool place.
On a daily basis, open your bottle to let some gases exchange, and also give it a good shake. Do this at least every other day for three weeks. At this point you can remove the stave, then run your contents through a coffee filter to remove the stave particles.
This will last a long while on your shelf, but why you wouldn't drink it sooner is beyond me. Makes an awesome gift, and scales up just fine.
