Ooh, here it is, the flagship cocktail. But before we get to the recipe, a little history.
I grew up in the midwest and lived in Wisconsin for five years before moving away for nearly two decades. It was during this time that I discovered cocktails and mixology, as well as a thirst and curiosity for the finer, more mysterious side of life.
Anyway, I became a snob. I bashed these cheeseheads who dumped 7up on their Old Fashioneds. Well, lo and behold, it grew on me.
However, I'm still the Daddio. So this is an improved Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned, but we upgrade the soda, the syrup, and the brandy.
1oz Wisconsin Brandy
1oz Calvados
8 dashes Angostura bitters
1 orange slice
1 good maraschino cherry
1 tablespoon Grenadine
4 oz San Pellegrino (I prefer the pomegranate, or the blood orange)
Muddle the orange, cherry, bitters, and Grenadine.
Add ice.
Add the brandies.
Top with the soda.
Garnish with a cherry and orange slice/crescent.
Serve with a straw.
***A note on muddling this.
Press the muddler against the peel side of the orange and press softly. Press it up to three times at most.
